Does film editing pay well?

The salary for film and TV editors can vary widely depending on factors such as experience, location, the scale of the project and the specific genre in which the editor works.

A vast majority of film and TV editors work as freelancers which means that although flexible working is increased, job security and consistency of work is always a consideration.

Day rates vary massively and the freelancer themselves set their own rates. It’s important to be well informed of the current standard rates (BECTU) and to maintain a good grasp of your position and what is an appropriate asking price. Remember you’re running a business, you are the asset and your time is valuable.
